Under the RTE Act, the High Court has mandated this reservation for economically disadvantaged families in private and matriculation schools in Tamil Nadu. To ensure transparency in the admission process, applications will be conducted online. The government will cover the full tuition fees for the students admitted under this scheme. However, the Tamil Nadu government has yet to announce the admission process for free education in private schools for the academic year 2025-26, leaving uncertainty about when the application process will commence.

The Tamil Nadu Education Department has yet to release any directives, notifications, or clarifications regarding the initiation of entry-level classes in all unaided private schools for the academic year 2025-26. In contrast, the admission process for LKG and Class 1 commenced on April 22 of the previous academic year, with the online application period concluding on May 20, 2024. Parents and guardians are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the start date for the free admission process for their children from disadvantaged groups and economically weaker sections in nearby private schools.

Various States Completing the RTE Admission Process for 2025-26

Multiple states in India have finalized the admission process for the 2025-26 academic year under the Right to Education Act, aimed at supporting disadvantaged groups and children from socially and economically weaker sections. The states involved include: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Sikkim, and West Bengal.
