Karnataka RTE Admission Seat Reservation

Each year, the Student Education Portal of Karnataka facilitates online admissions in accordance with the Right to Education Act, targeting disadvantaged groups of children in Government, BBMP, aided, and unaided schools, providing them with entirely free education. For the academic year 2025-26, the Education Department of Karnataka has released an official notification concerning RTE admissions for classes 1 to 8 in primary schools. This initiative aims to reserve a minimum of 25% of available seats, particularly in class 1, for children from underprivileged and disadvantaged backgrounds.

Karnataka RTE Admission Required Documents

According to the announcement from the Student Education Department of Karnataka, applicants are required to submit a caste certificate and an income certificate, ensuring that the RD number is correctly filled in the specified section. There is no need to upload these documents, as the software will conduct real-time verification during the application submission, thus validating the authenticity of the documents provided.

Age Relaxation for Class-1 under RTE Admission 2025-26 in Karnataka

In accordance with the suggestions put forth by the State Education Policy Committee, the Education Department of Karnataka has opted to lower the minimum age requirement for admission to class 1 in all government and private schools across the state. For the current academic year, the minimum age has been adjusted from 6 years to 5 years and 5 months. This decision responds to the concerns of parents whose children have completed Upper Kindergarten (UKG) while still under the age of 6.

The existing age requirement for class-1 admission under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in Karnataka is that children must have completed 6 years of age. This policy was enacted in late 2022, allowing children to finish their Upper Kindergarten (UKG) by the 2025-26 academic year while still being under the age of 6. The details are outlined in the accompanying table.

Academic YearStandardMinimum Age
2022-23Pre-KG2.5 Years
2023-24LKG3.5 Years
2024-25UKG4.5 Years
2025-26Class-15.5 Years

Karnataka RTE Admission Update – SMS Notification for Parents

The Student Education Online Admission Portal in Karnataka requires parents to complete the application form by accurately entering all personal details of their children. There is no need to upload original documents on the portal; however, parents must present all original certificates and proofs during the admission process. Additionally, parents will receive SMS notifications on their mobile devices regarding any errors in applications that are either incomplete or fail to meet compliance standards, which have not been validated by the system. It is anticipated that parents will respond to these messages in a timely manner.
